Read Chapters 1-3.


Do the following problems where numbers correspond to those in the text:

 1.4.  (We  talked about these  concepts  in Lecture  2, which will be
revisited in Lecture 4: summarizing data numerically.)

 2.2.  Specify type  (qualitative or quantitative) and  scale (nominal
or ordinal (ie. ranked) or interval).

 2.6. Identify  type (qualitative or  quantitative) and scale (nominal
or ordinal (ie. ranked) or interval) for each.

 2.7.

 2.11.  a,b,c,e, and  f: discuss which histogram  you like  better and
its shape (symmetric, unimodal, skewed?).

 2.31. Provide a pie and a bar chart.

 Additional  1:  Provide two  examples   of each  of observational and
experimental data.
