This talk presents small area estimators based on natural exponential family (NEF) quadratic variance function (QVF) models. We propose pseudo empirical best linear unbiased estimators of small area means based on area specific covariates and certain summary measures involving survey weights. If time permits, mean squared error estimation will also be discussed. The methodology is illustrated by estimating the proportion of poor children in the age group 5-17 for the different counties in one of the states of US.
